What You Will Do

Generally...

  • Planning, design, develop, test and implement business intelligence and analytics solutions within Davidson's enterprise business intelligence (BI) infrastructure to support operational and academic solutions.
  • Develop solutions to extract, transform, and load (ETL or ELT) institutional data in to and out of the data warehouse.
  • Develop data outputs (reports, dashboards, key performance indicators (KPI) and visualizations), and assist in data modeling and BI environment architecture tasks. 
  • Participate in various enterprise information management workflow processes including data quality automation, data dictionary maintenance and data classification via metadata documentation.
  • Uphold the department's mission to "drive digital transformation that advances Davidson's primary purpose" and contribute positively to a culture of collaboration, transparency, empathy, innovation, and accountability within ITS.

Specifically...

Development (70%) 

  • Develop reports using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) based on collaboration with ITS Engagement team members and customers.
  • Leverage SSRS2016 functionality to integrate Power BI reports and dashboards with native SSRS reports.
  • Develop ETL / ELT solutions as part of data warehousing and integration initiatives.
  • Participate in data warehouse architecture activities including data modeling.
  • Develop data visualizations, dashboards, KPIs and other self-service data solutions
  • Develop analytics solutions for specific use cases around data exploration and self-service.

 Information Management (20%) 

  • Participate in information management activities including data quality standards and master data management
  • Develop and assist in implementing technology solutions supporting information management including metadata management and data virtualization.

 Consultation and Engagement (10%) 

  • Consult regularly with ITS staff and departmental users to evaluate if developed solutions are being used to their fullest advantage and yielding the greatest possible efficiencies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices and future trends in enterprise applications and participate in user communities, professional associations, and conferences to share expertise and learn from others.
  • Prepare and provide status, activity, project updates and reports, and other communications to ITS leadership and campus constituents, as needed or requested.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of relevant experience developing business intelligence solutions including report and ETL development.
  • Understanding of data modeling concepts and implementation.
  • Development within the Microsoft BI stack including SSRS reports, SSIS packages and SSAS cubes while exhibiting increasing technical skillset and understanding.
  • Experience with self-service data visualization and analysis software in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with end users to assess needs, define and document technical requirements/specifications, and propose technical solutions that add value to the business process, department, or organization.
  • A 'can-do' attitude to challenges; energized by change and thriving in team-based work.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills and ability to establish good working relationships with a wide range of people within an academic community.
  • Project and time management skills, with ability to effectively manage competing priorities. 

Bonus Points For

  • Bachelors or advanced degree in computer engineering or computer science.
  • Previous experience in higher education and familiarity with its common academic and business processes.
  • Experience with self-service data visualization and analysis software in a production environment (MS Power BI, Tableau or Qlik).
  • Development experience with PL/SQL in an Oracle 10 (or above) environment.
  • Experience developing within a version control system (Team Foundation Server, Git, Mercurial)
  • Experience developing solutions within an agile methodology (Scrum, Kanban, Extreme programming, feature-driven development, etc…)
  • Previous experience in higher education and familiarity with its common academic and business processes.
  • Experience working with Ellucian Banner or Banner XE, Blackbaud CRM, Ellucian Operational Data Store (ODS), and/or other higher education enterprise applications.
  • Experience with iData Data Cookbook
  • Experience using open-sourced software and development libraries.
  • Experience developing solutions using Python and / or R
  • Experience with front-end development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and extended JavaScript libraries such as D3.js, React.js and Kendo.js
