Health Education Fellow

The Health Education Fellow is an opportunity for a member of the class of 2018 or 2019 to gain valuable higher education and public health experience by promoting sexual health education, working to reduce sexual violence, and educating the campus community about high-risk substance use and abuse on campus. All interventions are rooted in the Health Education Office’s central mission of supporting current students in their growth and development. This one-year position allows for creative ideas and opportunities to plan and implement innovative programs that shift campus norms.
 
The Fellow oversees the implementation of Davidson’s bystander initiative, Green Dot, and all related programming to that endeavor. The fellow also helps coordinate existing Health Education programming, including those related to the Health Advisers and other student organizations. The ideal candidate will have a good sense of Davidson student culture related to substance use, the ability to creatively message around alcohol education, the desire to assist in outreach programming, and the capacity to work in a creative and collegial environment. Previous experience in health programming on campus is not required, but the fellow should demonstrate a willingness to learn more about health education and the college student population.
 
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
·        Lead the implementation of the Green Dot program.
·        Engage in ongoing exploration of other innovative, effective collegiate programs regarding sexual health, sexual violence, substance use and abuse at peer institutions.
·        Work closely with the Health Educator in planning and implementing Orientation activities, including the development of the Community of Respect skits and the required online courses for all incoming students.
·        Develop awareness programming and collaboration with student organizations that focus on sexual violence reduction.
·        Develop awareness programming and collaboration on other college health issues such as healthy relationships, resilience, etc.
·        Cultivate relationships with groups on campus, such as the Patterson Court Council Organizations, Athletics, and RLO, that are seeking health education programming.
·        Take an active role in the planning and implementation of Health Adviser initiatives.
·        Assess current programs and offer feedback for future initiatives.
·        Attend accessible training opportunities in sexual violence prevention, substance abuse and other related topics. *This position comes with the opportunity to attend at least one professional development conference or training in the fields of health education or higher education.
