The Patterson Court Advisor assists with all facets of the fraternity and sorority life and eating house program at Davidson College. As a member of the College Union and Student Activities staff and of the Division of Student Life, the Patterson Court Advisor will join a committed team that cares deeply about students and each other.

The Davidson College Union advances community on campus by fostering interactions between students, faculty, staff, and guests through creative, inclusive, and educational spaces, services, and programs.

The Patterson Court Advisor partners with the Director of the College Union and the entire student activities team to foster an inclusive, celebratory and student-learning centered environment. The Patterson Court Advisor serves as a leader in organizational advising, student development, risk management, and individual and group advising. This position will work closely with other campus offices such as the Dean of Students Office, Center for Civic Engagement, Center for Diversity and Inclusion, Business Services, Physical Plant, and Campus Police. The Patterson Court Advisor is a 12-month position and will be required to attend some night and weekend events and meetings.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the advising of all registered Patterson Court Council organizations, including six IFC fraternities, four women’s eating-houses, two NPHC sororities, two NPHC fraternities, one LatinX sorority, and one LatinX fraternity. Meet regularly with student organization leadership to provide guidance around issues facing their organizations and the overall fraternity and sorority and eating house community at Davidson. Work actively with Organization Advisors in areas such as: advising specific organizations, strategic planning, and financial management. Communicate with fraternity and sorority inter/national headquarters staff. Review and implement policies, procedures, and standards created by the Patterson Court Council leadership.

Serve as the primary advisor to the Patterson Court Council executive board. Attend regular PCC executive board meetings and PCC body meetings. Meet regularly with officers on a regular basis and provide guidance and trainings for their individual committees. Manage the Patterson Court Council, Order of Omega, and risk management budgets. Assist with the maintenance of Patterson Court Council web and social media presence.

Implement risk management programming including: registering recruitment, philanthropic, and social events, communicating with Campus Police, training Risk Managers, initiating the conduct process when necessary, and keeping an inventory on all risk management materials. Serve as liaison between Dean of Students Office and Patterson Court conduct process.

Serve as the liaison between Physical Plant, Business Services, Dining Services, and the student House Managers in relation to House maintenance requests, maintenance billing, food purchasing, house inspections, opening and closing of houses, etc. Serve as the liaison between workers comp insurance providers for fraternity and eating house employees (cooks) by working closely with Business Services, student House Managers, and organization Treasurers.

Oversee recruitment/intake and new member education. Facilitate Eating House membership movement processes at the beginning of each semester.

Support major events and initiatives housed in the Student Activities Office.

Requirements:

Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, or College Student Development; 1-3 years of related experience in fraternity and sorority life, leadership development, and/or student activities required. Two years of graduate assistantship experience equates to one year of professional experience.

Priority will be given to candidates who have a solid understanding of student learning and development, leadership and organizational development, group facilitation, diversity and social justice issues, and know how to lead in and contribute to an inclusive and celebratory work environment. Available to work a flexible 40-hour week, including some evenings and weekends. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. Experience in risk management and organizational development very desirable. Desire to work in a collaborative liberal arts environment a must.
